Biography

Johannes Ernst studied architecture at the TU Berlin and at the IIT Chicago from 1990 to 1997. Since 1997 he is architect at Steidle + Partner, since 2005 as managing partner of steidle architekten with Johann Spengler and Martin Klein. From 2001 to 2007 he worked at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 2016/2017 he took over the Urban Planning and Design course at the Munich University of Applied Sciences. From 2019 to the present he has headed the Department of Housing and Design at the TU Darmstadt, since 2022 together with Prof. Audrey Shimomura. He is a member of the Munich Werksviertel advisory board and the GBR of the city of Freiburg. At steidle architekten, Johannes Ernst designs and implements projects of all different sizes. The focus of his work is on large-scale urban planning as well as public and private buildings. The best-known projects include the urban planning Theresienhöhe Munich, the 2006 Olympic Village in Turin, the urban planning for the BUGA 2019 in Heilbronn and the master plan for the Werksviertel Munich.
