GoGreen Ticket—together sustainable for a green future!

Everyone can make their contribution to climate protection—including you as a visitor to BAU 2023. That is why we would like to offer you the opportunity to quickly and easily offset your CO₂ footprint at the exhibition. By paying an offset fee for the average CO₂ consumption of our visitors at the last BAU, you are making a significant contribution to promoting climate protection projects. This offset fee of €4 will be invested in two high-quality myclimate carbon offset projects that meet the highest standards (Gold Standard, Plan Vivo) and, in addition to reducing greenhouse gases, demonstrably make a positive contribution to sustainable development locally and regionally. Let's walk the path to a greener future together.

Climate change is a global and generation-wide challenge that we must also face as a company. Our exhibition grounds already feature many environmentally friendly facets, from geothermal energy and photovoltaics to large scale greening. As Messe München, we want to strengthen our "green footprint" and be CO₂ neutral by 2030 at the latest. That's why we're also appealing to our visitors, exhibitors and partners to behave in an environmentally friendly manner and take an important step toward a more sustainable future together with us.

Consciously avoiding emissions

In addition to the GoGreen CO₂ Ticket, there will be other opportunities for you to avoid emissions, save raw materials and protect the environment during your visit to BAU 2023.

Climate protection on site

  • Drinking with Re-Cup: reusable cups, bottles or other containers are welcome at BAU. Feel free to bring your own to avoid waste.
  • Walking with a good conscience: no corridor carpets on the exhibition grounds and high rates of textile reuse support the deliberate use of resources.

Environmentally friendly travel

  • Climate-friendly journey: with BAU’s special Event Ticket for Deutsche Bahn your travel will be low emission. And thanks to the trade fair center’s excellent public transport connections to Munich you will always be right in the middle of the action.
  • Green refueling on site: 110 stations are available on the exhibition grounds for charging your electric vehicle.
  • Cleanly separated: strict recycling makes BAU even more sustainable, which is why we dispose of the waste resulting from assembly and dismantling as commercial waste for recycling. Recyclable materials can thus be returned to the economic cycle.

Our project selection—our responsibility

The CO₂ emissions are offset in high-quality myclimate carbon offset projects that meet the highest standards (Gold Standard, Plan Vivo) and, in addition to reducing greenhouse gases, demonstrably make a positive contribution to sustainable development locally and regionally. The collected GoGreen ticket fees are distributed to the following international carbon offset projects.

Biogas for rural Households in India

The overall objective of this climate protection programme is the installation of domestic biodigesters as a clean, sustainable energy source throughout India. The biogas generated from cow dung replaces fuels that are currently used for domestic energy needs such as firewood or kerosene.

Situation without project:
Using firewood and kerosene for cooking

Yearly CO₂ reduction:
54,217 t

Your support contributes to the following 11 Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG1—No poverty
The use of slurry (organic fertiliser produced by the farmers themselves) helps to prevent small farmers from becoming dependent on chemical fertilisers, thus improving their families’ financial situation.

SDG 2Zero Hunger
To date, the biogas systems have produced 181,580 tonnes of organic fertiliser and thus reduced 4,242 tonnes of chemical fertiliser, thus contributing to sustainable agriculture.

SDG 3—Good Health and Well-Being
43,500 persons have benefited from better air quality since the start of the project.

SDG 4—Quality Education
Because the time-consuming collection of firewood is no longer necessary, children have more time to go to school and do homework. This gives each family almost 3.5 hours of additional time per day.

SDG 5—Gender Equality
Only women are entitled to buy and own a biogas plant. This helps to level out the balance of power in the family and to strengthen the position of the women.

SDG 7—Affordable and Clean Energy
6,890 biogas digesters have been installed since the start of the project.

SDG 8—Decent Work and Economic Growth
87 permanent jobs have been created for the local population and more than 7,600 people have been trained in the use of biogas plants.

SDG 12—Responsible consumption and production
The recycling of organic waste contributes to sustainable waste management.

SDG 13—Climate Actions
Each biogas biodigester avoids 6.5 t CO₂ and reduced wood consumption by 5.3 t per year.

SDG 15—Life on land
To date, the programme has reduced wood consumption by 174,704 tons and has thus saved 2,393 hectares of forest from deforestation.

SDG 17—Partnerships for the goals
The programme enables the transfer, dissemination and implementation of environmentally friendly technologies in India.

Biogas Plants for 9,000 Families in India

The installation of domestic biogas plants substitutes the use of firewood and chemical fertilizers in the Karnataka region. In addition to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and less degradation of the forest people directly profit from higher crop yields and less indoor pollution. Moreover, the project will also reduce methane emissions from cattle manure.

Situation without project:
Using firewood and kerosene for cooking

Yearly CO₂ reduction:
45,650 t

SDG 2—Zero hunger
To date, the biogas systems have produced 301,534 tonnes of organic fertiliser and thus reduced 6,130 tonnes of chemical fertiliser, thus contributing to sustainable agriculture.

SDG 3—Good health and well-being
50,000 persons have benefited from better air quality since the start of the project.

SDG 4—Quality education
Because the time-consuming collection of firewood is no longer necessary, children have more time to go to school and do homework. This gives each family almost 1.2 hours of additional time per day.

SDG 5—Gender equity
Only women are entitled to buy and own a biogas plant. This helps to level out the balance of power in the family and to strengthen the position of the women.

SDG 7—Affordable and clean energy
8,033 biogas digesters have been installed since the start of the project.

SDG 8—Decent work and economic growth
22 permanent jobs have been created for the local population and more than 8,000 people have been trained in the use of biogas plants.

Experienced consultants help companies in the field of CO₂ and resource management identify and develop potential. myclimate’s more than 140 climate protection projects so far have helped save 9.65 million tons of CO2, plant 13.7 million trees and create 16,600 jobs.

Further information

myclimate label: With the myclimate label, you can actively protect the climate and communicate your climate neutrality commitment credibly and transparently. With the help of the tracking number integrated in the label, you can see at any time at www.myclimate.de in which myclimate carbon offset project the greenhouse gas emissions are offset. This provides maximum transparency and strengthens trust in the carbon neutrality commitment.

CO₂ offsetting: The CO₂ emissions are offset in the high-quality myclimate carbon offset projects, which meet the highest standards (Gold Standard) and, in addition to reducing greenhouse gases, demonstrably make a positive contribution to sustainable development locally and regionally. myclimate carbon offset projects thus contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

Costs incurred: The GoGreen ticket costs €4 more than the regular ticket. The amount is calculated from the average CO₂ consumption of a journey to and from our visitors at the past BAU in 2019. Thank you for joining us on the path to a greener future!
